About the Artist
Barbara Woods is an expressionistic artist who uses color and texture to capture the emotions of a moment. Barbara came to art later than most. While living in Los Angeles, a dear friend encouraged her to enroll in classes with a local artist. She was captivated by the creative process. Unfortunately, due to job demands, which included extensive travel, painting disappeared from her life before she had an opportunity to fully grasp the technical aspects of the process. Although time allowed to paint was elusive, she visited museums and discussed the artistic process with artists when the opportunity presented itself. After moving back to Texas, Barbara committed to making art the priority in her life.
Working with oils using palette knife and brush, Barbara primarily paints landscapes and florals. With travel as a constant influence in her life, Barbara's desire is to capture the essence of these foreign locales, as well as her beloved Texas. As her work evolves, she continues to explore how to evoke strong emotions through the use of color and values with less emphasis on form.
Barbara lives and works in Grapevine, Texas. Her work is held in private collections in Texas, Utah, and California. She has exhibited in Stratford Green Gallery in Lewisville, Texas and is also featured on the House of Colors website: http://www.house-of-colors/.
